The Ninth October Lecture - Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on Belarus’s Fight for Freedom

Overview
The ninth edition of the October Lecture will feature Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, president-in-exile and leader of the Belarusian democratic opposition. In her lecture, Tsikhanouskaya will reflect on five years of growing repression under Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s authoritarian rule and explore the uncertain future of Belarus in the shadow of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Belarus, situated between Russia, Ukraine, and NATO and EU member states Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia, occupies a crucial geopolitical position in the heart of Europe. As the country risks becoming a staging ground for renewed Russian aggression, the struggle of Belarusians for democracy and sovereignty has taken on renewed urgency both for Belarus itself and for European security as a whole.
Programme
The evening will feature a keynote lecture by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, moderated by Kysia Hekster (NOS), followed by a public discussion and Q&A session.
