This event is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the run-up to the International Day of the Solidarity with Political Prisoners in Belarus. It is aimed to bring together policymakers, human rights advocates, and individuals who remain committed to supporting those individuals who are currently imprisoned for their political beliefs and activism. Guests will also be invited to view 'Letters from Lukashenka's Prisoners', an exhibition by Index on Censorship for and about political prisoners in Belarus.

As of now, there are over 1,200 political prisoners in Belarus—each one a symbol to the enduring struggle for fundamental rights and democratic freedoms. This aims to raise awareness about their plight, discuss potential avenues for international solidarity, and underscore the importance of sustained diplomatic and humanitarian support.

The preliminary agenda for the conference is as follows:

  • 12:30 – 13:00: Welcome and Registration
  • 13:00 – 13:10: Opening
  • 13:10 – 14:00: Conversation with a Former Political Prisoner
  • 14:00 – 14:45: Panel
  • 14:45 – 15:00: Speech by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands
  • 15:00 – 16:00: Exhibition Index on Censorship and coffee
