Knowledge Institutes

The Netherlands hosts a wide variety of knowledge institutes working on Russia and Eastern Europe related topics. This page provides a non-exhaustive overview of relevant organisations that have agreed to become part of the REKA network.

University of Amsterdam

At the University of Amsterdam, the students and staff of Eastern European Studies focus on the political, social and cultural history of Russia, Ukraine and Central and Southeast Europe in the twentieth and twenty-first century. The students and scholars of the Russian and Slavic Studies department explore Russian, Polish, Czech, and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian language, culture, literature, and media. 

The Central and East European Studies Centre

The Central and Eastern European Studies Centre is an interdisciplinary platform of scholars of Leiden University. The Centre’s mission is to bundle together, strengthen and disseminate existing research into the history, politics, and culture of the region, spanning the new member states of the EU, but also Ukraine, Moldova, the Western Balkans and Russia.

Radboud Centre for Philosophy and Society

The major questions society currently grapples with demand a new philosophy; a more constructive, involved and approachable one. The Radboud Center for Philosophy and Society (RCPS) contributes to these developments within philosophy and its researchers place themselves at the crossroads between philosophy and society in their quest to obtain fresh, significant insights. At RCPS, prof. Evert van der Zweerde focuses on Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Netherlands Helsinki Committee

The Netherlands Helsinki Committee is a non-governmental organisation that promotes human rights and strengthens the rule of law and democracy in all countries of Europe, including the Central Asian countries participating in the OSCE.

PAX

PAX is the Netherlands' largest peace organisation, working to protect civilians from war violence, end armed violence, and build inclusive peace.
